Facebook has decided to do its part as millions of small businesses struggle to stay open amid the Coronavirus pandemic. This week Facebook has announced a new $100 million grant program that will assist 30,000 small businesses in 30 nations worldwide. Although it is still unsure who is eligible for these grants, Facebook said it will begin taking applications and start reviewing them in the upcoming weeks. Besides their grant program Facebook is also taking steps to provide more support for companies that use their platform by uploading virtual videos on how to operate in these conditions as well as revamping their pages to make it easier for small businesses to thrive. In addition to all of this, the Facebook Journalism Project is offering $1 million in grants to local news organizations in the U.S. and Canada, which will help local media outlets stay afloat and further spread their message to local communities. All in all, I think that Facebook is doing incredible things right now to aid and assist companies that can’t take a dramatic hit right now. Even though Facebook makes billions upon billions of dollars every year in revenue and $100 million dollars seems like pocket change, their efforts and grant programs will make a dramatic difference and help out the small businesses globally.
